Sacramento- Girls' Weekly Writing Workshop

Girls' Weekly Writing Workshop
A weekly writing class especially for girls grades 3-5 who enjoy writing (2nd graders who are writing and composing fluently are welcome.)

Girls will learn to cultivate an outlet for self-expression, to be attentive listeners and effective public speakers, to give positive feedback to their peers, and to write, write, write!
Emphasis will be on creating an encouraging and supportive class environment.

Each class will include a teacher read-aloud followed by an exploration of a related writing element and writing activity as well as an opportunity for students to share their writing with each other.  Explorations will include illustrations/art, nature walks and more.  Topics will include alliteration, onomatopoeia, similes and metaphors, point of view, parts of speech, story elements, genres, and more.

Classes will be tailored to the needs/ interests of the students.  Explorations are open-ended to allow students to work to their utmost abilities. Weekly homework will enable students to continue their writing explorations between classes.

Class enrollment capped at 8 students.

Class will be taught by Lori Ward, a former public school teacher with over 20 years experience who is currently a homeschooling stay-at-home mom to her two daughters.  Lori has a passion for language arts and writing and a natural ability to inspire students’ own talents to unfold.
