Sacramento Community Theater Presents Shen Yun

Disclaimer: While this production looks astounding, I would encourage you to discuss the religious heritage represented. Some of the performances are retelling legendary stories of military heroes, historical and religious figures, and some of the music may be religious in nature.

From the website:

Classical Chinese dance has a history of thousands of years, sharing a common ancestry with martial arts. Its dramatic jumping, spinning, and flipping techniques are just part of the vast repertoire of movements that make classical Chinese dance—one of the most demanding and expressive art forms in the world.

From the moment the gong is struck, you know you are in for something memorable. The Shen Yun Orchestra masterfully blends ancient Chinese instruments, like the emotive erhu and delicate pipa, with a full Western orchestra, creating an exhilarating new sound.

Discovery Museum Simulated Space Mission

The Discovery Museum and Science & Space Center is offering a simulated space mission.

Your child has to be 9.

Dates of upcoming missions

January 3, 1014
February 28, 2014
May 2, 2014

Discovery Museum phone: 916-808-3942
Discovery Museum website for these missions: http://www.thediscovery.org/At-The-Museum/community-missions.html
$20.00 for non-members/$15.00 for members
Doors open at 5:30 pm.

Launch:  6:00 pm.

Landing time: 8:30 pm

Your child has to attend with a parent.  You have to fill out a separate form for each mission you will be attending.  If interested, I would send off the registration form and payment to secure a spot.  There is a limit on how many kids they can accommodate and this event is open to the public.

You can also call in and learn more about what is going to take place so you know what to expect! Or you may want to just do one mission.  It's really up to you.  I know that on each mission there are different tasks they can do.  Spread the word!

Cheers,

Valerie

*****

We believe that every child can be a great writer which is why we believe in personalized writing classes in which each student progresses at his/her own pace and where each success - no matter how big or small - is celebrated.

Online Scribblers class lessons are posted online weekly with assignments due the following week. This allows students to work around their own busy schedules! And because learning isn't a one dimensional process, Online Scribblers classes offer a variety of learning activities to captivate different learning styles. Students will journal, complete both written and reading lessons, and complete a longer writing assignment due weekly. In addition, learning check points are provided to let students know that they are on the right track.

Each week, the instructor personally comments, critiques, and works with students to develop individual writing goals and processes based on the work submitted. Success will be based on individual improvement rather than competing with other student work.

Class sizes are limited so that there can be adequate one on one communication between student and instructor.

Meet at the park and ride at Pleasant Valley Road and Hwy 20 at 8:00AM to carpool. For those people down the hill call Dale to arrange a meeting place. Sutter NWR is just outside Yuba City and is often overlooked by birders but can offer large numbers of geese and waterfowl with easy viewing. We will also visit Colusa NWR which is just outside the town of Colusa where we expect to see waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds and songbirds.
We should see well over 50 species including Greater White-fronted Goose, Snow Goose, Ross’s Goose, Cackling Goose, Green-winged Teal, American Wigeon, Northern Pintail, and Black-crowned Night-Heron.
This trip is birding mostly by car. Bring food, drink, insect repellent, and dress for the weather. Trip will go rain or shine with exceptions for major storms. Call Dale the night before if weather is questionable. This is an all day trip.
