Apologetics Club (March and April Dates)

Bridgeway Christian Homeschool Support Group would like to welcome you (and any Jr. High/High School student) to join us for our next two Apologetics Club meetings! We are continuing to offer a once per month event that will help your student hear answers to questions they may be thinking about. My goal for my own kids is that they develop a Biblical worldview. I pray that their faith is challenged and they have opportunities to ask questions while they are still under my roof.
Each event will be on a Friday afternoon, but we do not have a set Friday each month as it’s dependent upon speaker availability. Below are the next two that are scheduled. If you have questions and if youd like to RSVP, please email Brenda Johnston at johnstohouse@gmail.com.

DATE: Friday, March 22nd
TIME: 2:00-4:00pm
Upstairs in Classroom 1
TOPIC: Should Christians watch films dealing with witchcraft and the occult that God says are an abomination to him? Is this a black and white issue? Do demons truly exist? What is the Wicca movement? Do witch schools really exist? What is the Illuminatii Eye and what does 666 mean? We'll explore Genesis Apologetics newly released 20-minute documentary on these topics and how they relate to our culture today with a special emphasis on the Harry Potter craze. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of students engaging in these books and films.
Speaker: Dan Biddle, Ph.D. and Founder of Genesis Apologetics, www.genesisapologetics.com. You can also follow them on YouTube and Facebook.

DATE: Friday, April 26th
TIME: 2:00-4:00pm
Upstairs in Classroom 1
TOPIC: What is abortion? What is the unborn? What gives humans value? What is our duty? What does the Bible say about abortion? What should the role of government be on this issue? Whats going on in the news? Well discuss and debunk bad arguments and objections to the Pro-Life movement such as: What about rape and incest? If you dont like abortion then dont get one. What if the mother’s life is in danger? What about my body, my choice? What if the baby is deformed? It’s just a blob of tissue. It’s not a person because it’s not conscious. It can’t feel pain. This is a sensitive topic that is making headlines in the news right now. At some point, someone you know may consider an abortion—what should you say to them? Parents—I encourage you to join in on this topic if you are able, however, it’s not necessary if you have younger children to care for. Figures of babies at different stages will be shown. In addition, a 60-second video clip will be shown of a deceased baby after an abortion has been performed.
Speaker: James Jenkins is a Pro-Life advocate that speaks in churches and colleges throughout our region. He runs an apologetics class at The Pointe church in Antelope.

COST: $5/student (parents are free)
WHO CAN ATTEND: ONLY students 6th grade and up. Parents are also encouraged to stay if you do not have younger students. If you do have younger siblings, feel free to drop your OKG students off. Do to the sensitive nature of some topics that will be discussed at this event or future Apologetics events, we are requesting that only 6th grade and older students attend.
HOW TO RSVP: RSVP for number of students. If parent is staying, let me know that as well.
HOW TO PAY: You may pay the day of the event in exact cash only. However, we ask that if you sign up, you commit to coming, so please check your schedules. We are paying a speaker fee and need to have accurate numbers of attendees for handouts.
We are excited about this opportunity for growth and hope you can attend! Let me know if you have questions.
P.S. If the cost is a hardship for you, please message me and I’d love to chat with you. I would like your student there!

Regional Worldview Academy Christianity & Culture Conference 4/5&6

FYI   Please contact Beth directly at : beth@boyumville.net if interested or if you have questions.

Register NOW for Upcoming Regional Worldview Academy Christianity & Culture Conference
Are you seeking to raise your kids to know the truth of the gospel of Jesus and to ache to share the hope of that gospel with the lost souls around them?  Are you seeking to raise servant leaders who move towards need and not comfort?  If so, please consider attending the upcoming Worldview Academy Christianity and Culture Conference - "Bold Christianity in an Anything Goes Culture" - April 5 & 6th in Rocklin @ Creekside Church.
My name is Beth Boyum and my husband and I have four kids, ages 22, 19, 17, and 14.  We have been homeschooling from the beginning and have been involved with the ministry of Worldview Academy (WVA) for the past 9 years. We have sent our kids to their summer camps yearly and our girls have served as staff/interns. My husband and I are deeply grateful for their ministry to teens and their impact for the glory of God not just in the lives of our kids, but thousands upon thousands of teens nationwide. Their Christ-exalting faculty and staff have consistently modeled what it means to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and how to live that out in the every day. They have taught our kids how to answer their own hard questions about their faith and equally importantly how to extend the truth of the gospel of Christ in genuine love to others.  We are so excited to get to share this ministry with you at the upcoming conference:

Rocklin, One-day Homeschool Classical Christian Ed. Conference, 3/2

One-day Classical Christian Education homeschool conference coming up March 2nd in Rocklin, CA. Special speaker Marc Jamie Hays from Tennessee!
About the conference: This one day homeschool event will include encouragement and practical tips on homeschooling the younger years through high school. Classical Christian education can seem daunting, but the history of it is amazing and can transform your child's education today! Learn how every parent can make their homeschool experience rewarding and extraordinary. Come away refreshed and encouraged!
About the speaker: Marc Hays is an experienced homeschool classical educator and lead curriculum director for Classical Conversations.  He has been married to Jamie for 18 years. They have 6 children: a single, a double, and a triple. Yep, that’s right—triplets and twins. They have been home educating since 1999 and a part of Classical Conversations since 2010. Marc serves as the Leader Curriculum Developer for Classical Conversations Multimedia. He also directs a High School Challenge I program in middle Tennessee. Marc enjoys his morning rituals of drinking coffee, reading books, and peeking in on the kids while they sleep. His favorite coffee is Costa Rican; his favorite author is C. S. Lewis; and his favorite kids are currently six in number. His lifetime aspirations are subsumed under one prayer: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” A secondary goal is to be his great-grandchildren’s Challenge director. He is confident that the primary goal will come to pass. He hopes he is blessed with the secondary one as well."

Bridgeway Christian Church Homeschool Support Group invites your teen to join us! (You do not need to be a member of our homeschool support group.)
We learned so much last year in our Apologetics Club! We are continuing to offer a once per month event that will help your student hear answers to questions they may be thinking about. My goal for my own kids is that they develop a Biblical worldview. DATE: Friday, February 15th
TIME: 2:00-4:00pm
Bridgeway Christian Church: Upstairs in Classroom 1

TOPIC:  Is it okay to have doubts about Christianity? What is the role of doubts in faith? How do I know this is all true? How much trust do we put in human intelligence and how much place do we leave for mystery? Is faith at odds with reason?

Is your teen asking any of the above questions? Do they feel shame when they have doubts? Do they have a safe place to ask questions? This is the place to tackle some of these questions!

Speaker: Pastor Matt Bach
Matt Bach is the Director of Christian Development at Bridgeway. He was the Pastor of High School Ministries at Bridgeway from 2011-2017 and has a passion for connecting with youth. He holds an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Theology (Old Testament emphasis) from Briercrest Bible College. Matt is also an adjunct faculty member at William Jessup University. Greetings! Sierra Pregnancy and Health (SPH) will be hosting our annual fundraiser dinner. The purpose of our Light + Life dinner is to raise funds, introduce new people to the organization, and share the eternal impact SPH is making in our community for health and life.

We cannot put together this wonderful event without the help of many precious volunteers. We need YOU!! There are 3 areas in which we need people to help us make this night a complete success.

Area 1: Servers: Serving the food to our guests alongside our caterer.
We need 27-30 student/adult volunteers for this crucial area. If you are high school aged or a young adult, then we need YOU to come and help us serve the food. We partner with Randy Peter’s Catering and they love our student servers. . Servers will also stay after the event to help the caterer clean up and get things placed back in order. Each server will be fed dinner and receive a small thank you gift from us for all your dedication and hard work.
Arrival Time: 4:00 pm
End Time: 10:00 pm
Attire: White Shirt, Black Pants, Comfortable shoes

Area 2: Set Up: Help us make our space usable and beautiful.
We need 25-30 people to help us set up our event. This will include many different tasks such as, decorating, moving items in and out of the room, etc. If you have a heart to serve in this area, then we have a job for you!
Arrival Time: 12:00 noon
End Time: 3:00 pm
Attire: Comfortable Clothing, Comfortable Shoes

Area 3: Tear Down: Help us to turn the space back to its original state
We need 20 people who can help us to tear down the event. This will require moving tables, chairs, taking down décor, etc. Anyone can help in this area, many hands make light work! If you have a heart to serve in this area, then we have a job for you! Our event ends at 9:00 and we would like to have it all torn down in one hour.
Arrival Time: 9:00 pm
End Time: 10:00 pm
