Football is possible for homeschoolers!
Has your son expressed an interest in high school football, but you wondered how to make that happen alongside homeschooling? VCA (Valley Christian Academy) is your answer. Practice begins in earnest next week, so contact Kathy Gunter kagunter@surewest.net right away for all the info.
My son, Will, has played for the past 2 years and loves it! Good coaching and conditioning, good character building and fun teamwork.
Here are some details for the start of practice:
Practice time will run from 3:30 - 6:00pm Monday through Friday. There will be no weight training for the month of August. **Please make sure your son knows to be at the school READY to practice by 3:30 each day. If there is a reason he won't be there on a given day he needs to personally let Coach Alex know he'll be missing practice before practice begins.
Make sure your player is drinking plenty of water before practice. August is typically pretty hot and so he'll want to be well hydrated.
Players need to bring plenty of water, cleats, and running shoes to each practice.
If you have not scheduled a physical for your son you need to do that ASAP. That completed form along with the entire VCA athletic form need to be turned in to Mark at the VCA office by next week. If you need a copy the athletic forms (which includes the doctor's form for the physical) you can either get them from the office or from the VCA website. http://vcalions.org/
As a reminder if you haven't turned in the $50 fee for practice jerseys please turn that in to the school office or have your son bring it practice on Monday and give it to Coach Alex. (practice jersey, shorts, and dri-fit shirt are included in this fee.) We need this money before we can order the jerseys.
There is a $200 sports fee that covers various costs associated with the season including home and away jerseys that are each players to keep. This fee can be turned in to the school office as well.
There are a few dates for you to mark on your calendar as well.
Friday, August 14th - Parent's meeting (time and location on campus coming soon)
Friday, August 21 - Friday, August 22 - Sleepover at the school for all players. This will start immediately after practice and will be done before noon on Saturday. There will be a BBQ at the Stoever's home to kick off the time and parents are welcome/encouraged to come and share in that time. (More details to come.) Then the guys will head back to the school for their planned activities concluding with breakfast on Saturday.
Friday, August 28 - our first game of the season - an away game at Encina Prep. You can find the full schedule here: http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/valley-christian-lions-(roseville,ca)/football/home.htm:
As game time gets closer there will be many areas for which we will be asking for help from you parents. These will include team meals the night before games, pre-game and halftime snacks, game duties, special event planning and a variety of other things. Be thinking even now how you would like to help out the team! We will be taking sign ups at the parents' meeting or you can email us now as well if you already know where you'd like to help. We both want and need all of you to help!
We plan to send out letters to you weekly once the season is upon us and as needed before then. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at any time. We look forward to serving you and to helping make this another great season of football.
To God be the Glory!
