Speech and Debate Tournament Judge Recruitment

FYI.  See the information below for how to sign up.  Contact Kathy Anderson at (530) 676-5586 if you have any questions.
----------------------------
As you may know, our family is involved in a homeschool speech and debate club for students ages 12-18. They practice weekly, and participate in tournaments throughout the year.

Many of the tournaments are out of the area, but we are having a local one coming up soon at: American River College in Sacramento (off I-80 and Madison on College Oak Drive) from April 13 through April 16, 2014.

We are in need of folks from our community as well as friends and family to come and help judge at the tournament. No experience is necessary (really! none!), and I hope you will consider serving as one of many judges we need to help fill over 1200 judging slots. It’s fun and easy, and no experience is necessary because we give a short orientation prior to the round to help you fill out your ballots

The time requirement is approximately 2-1/2 hours, and we have slots available throughout the day or evening. Anyone over 18 and a graduate from high school can judge. We are seeking a mix of people from varying backgrounds - teachers, doctors, mailmen, homemakers, pastors, business owners, college students - if you speak English and are not hearing impaired, you are perfect! You just sit back, enjoy the speech, and fill out ballots. We offer refreshments, too, as well as help with reserved parking at American River College.

Would you be able to help us and volunteer for about 2-1/2 hours? There are lots of interesting events to choose from including:

Speech Events: Dramatic and humorous (which are like acting/story-telling), impromptu, extemporaneous (current events), apologetics, expository (using props), persuasive, and original speeches.

Team Policy Debate: Resolved: That the United States Federal Government should substantially reform its marine natural resource policies.

Lincoln Douglas Debate: Resolved: The United States has a moral obligation to mitigate international conflicts.

You can register for the day and time that best fits your schedule by going to our website at: http://capital-idea.homeschooldebate.net Once you are in the website, click “Judge Registration” at the top of the page and follow the instructions. You will receive confirmation by email.
