The Youth for Animals Club is designed for youths 9 through 12 years of age who want to learn how they can make a difference in the lives of animals.  Youth for Animals Club meets monthly on the last Tuesday of each month from 5:30 - 7:00p.m.  All club sessions are held at Placer SPCA Roseville Companion Animal Care Center. Club sessions are nine months long and run from September through May
The Youth for Animals Club is designed to dig deeper into the topics that are broadly discussed in Placer SPCA's Humane Kids Camp. Through group discussions, activities, and service projects students in the Youth for Animals Club will learn about:
  • Animal Welfare Organizations, including how and why animals enter shelter environments, caring for animals in shelter environments, and what they can do now to help support shelter animals;
  • Proper Care and Treatment of Animals, including how to safely handle animals, proper nutrition and exercise, basic grooming and health, and the costs of owning a pet;
  • Career Explorations in Animal Welfare, and more..
  • Club activities include:
  • Group discussions;
  • Guest speakers
  • Video, stories, and games
  • Service projects - (some to be completed during and others completed outside of club meetings)
  • Opportunities to view animals in the care of Placer SPCA
  • The Youth for Animals Club is NOT a club for children who want to pet and play with animals. This club is designed for young people who are serious about learning how to help animals and willing to work towards that goal.  Each member is required to complete two service projects during their nine month membership period.

    Club membership is $60.00, and includes 1 club meetup per month from September through May. Anyone interested in becoming a club member must complete an application and agree to a Code of Behavior. Parents or Guardians of club members will be required to sign a liability release.

    Junior Volunteer Program
    If you are age 13 through 17, you may enter our Junior Volunteer Program as a Junior Team with a parent or guardian. As a Junior Team, you may participate in most volunteer opportunities, including trainings, dog walking, and cat or critter socialization.
    The Junior Volunteer Program requires the complete participation of your parent or guardian. Your parent or guardian must be present at all times, including Volunteer Orientation, all training sessions, and at all times during volunteer service.
    With the involvement of parents, youth age 13-17 can also participate in the Foster Care Program by temporarily providing a home for orphaned kittens.
    Children under the age of 13 do not volunteer directly with the animals at the Placer SPCA. However, there are many ways that children can earn community service hours by doing projects that benefit the animals. For more information, please visit the Community Service page.
