Techne Writing Class

Techne Writing Class
The Techne Class is so named because Techne means art or skill in Latin.  My scholars chose this name because they thought it fit the character of the class.  Scholar means anyone learning Latin or Greek.  I have been teaching this class for five years and it is ever evolving, as the needs of my students change.  This is an engaging creative writing class, which will capture the heart of even the most reluctant writer.

In this class, we learn the “Roots of English” with flash card and many games that keep it fun and challenging.  By the end of the school year, your scholar will know 300 words in Greek and Latin, how to spell them and how they are used in English every day.
We also study logic and reasoning.  My scholars work through logic puzzles and ideas to help them to learn to think for themselves and question the world around them.
The main body of the class is creative writing.  They focus on using descriptive words that paint a picture for the reader.  I have taken students who despised writing and felt self-conscious about their abilities; and as we have worked together, they have blossomed into very talented and creative writers.  In class, we focus on getting their voice on paper, having fun with writing, all while learning basic writing skills and grammar.  They share their writing each week with the rest of the class, which provides feedback and builds confidence in their work and public speaking.
