BIO:
Born and raised in Northern California, Sylvia Corona spoke Spanish at home. Upon entering public school her Kindergarten year, she learned English. She continued to speak Spanish at home and in her Hispanic community. Throughout her life, she has visited family in Mexico, many times for lengthy periods. During her high school education, Sylvia took four years of Advanced Spanish courses and continued to study Spanish in college. Sylvia homeschooled her own children from K-12 for twenty years and was active in the homeschooling community. She was a member of SCOPE, a SCOPE Chat Group Co-Leader in the Antelope/North Highlands/Elverta area for three years, and a SCOPE Conference committee member for several years. In 2002, she and another homeschool mother founded Antelope Springs Church Homeschool Network (ASCHN). She led that group for three years. After that, she continued to be involved in ASCHN, provided encouragement and support to fellow homeschooling mothers, and provided consultation to the ASCHN leadership. Sylvia has been married since 1983 to Jose and has three children, Janelle, Eric, and Diego. All have graduated from homeschooling. Two of her children attended/attend Biola University and her last one plans to attend California Baptist University in Fall 2014. The Coronas attended Metro Calvary until recently and now attend Bridgeway. Her passions are homeschooling and her Hispanic culture and language. She thrives on sharing her own homeschooling experiences and knowledge and encouraging fellow homeschool moms, as well as her Spanish knowledge. She has taught Spanish at UCHE and Bridgeway for the last four years.
