Writing With Kris class update/opportunity

Dear parents,
Here we are at the end of another awesome class session!  I know the teachers have all thoroughly enjoyed teaching your children again this semester.  Thank you for sharing them with us.

Even though we are wrapping up our current classes, a couple of teachers have decided to offer one more class to end the school year.  Mrs. Mal is offering a class on writing a research paper.  Her high school class simply did not have enough time to tackle this project during the regular ten week sessions, so she is offering an additional five weeks of instruction to students in her class, focusing specifically on writing a research paper.  The topic that they will choose to write their research on will connect specifically with the novel they have studied this semester, which means their current novel study will be enhanced even more.  Students will have several options for topics to choose from, so they can choose a topic that interests them.  Of course, with Mrs. Mal as the teacher, you know how thorough and beneficial this will be for your students.  If you have a student that is interested in the class, that is fine too.  Mrs. Mal will work with your child to come up with an interesting topic for doing research on.

In addition to Mrs. Mal’s research writing class, our 7th/8th grader teacher, Mrs. Paduraru, is offering to teach a narrative writing class.  This class is available to students in grades 5-12 who are interested in learning about writing stories.  As most of you probably already know, students often love to write stories.  And while we enjoy our time studying great stories, our students do not get the opportunity to spend quality time learning how to write their own stories.  So we would love to offer this class for those students.  This too will be a five week class.

Both classes will be held at the same location and at the same time: First Baptist Church of Orangevale (8998 Central Ave.) from 9:30-11:30 on Wed. mornings.  The first class will meet on April 5 to get started.  The classes will NOT meet on 4/12 because of Easter break.  Classes will resume on 4/19, 4/26, (likely no class on 5/3), 5/10, 5/17.  We want to give students a five full weeks to complete their writing project, as well as taking a week of vacation for Easter; thus, we are giving them an extra week to work on their writing projects without attending class on May 3.

The cost of each class will be $100 per student.  Of course charter funds will cover the cost of the class, or you may pay the class fee in two installments.  We need a minimum of 6 students in each class in order to make it happen, so I hope that everyone will carefully consider this fun and educational opportunity for your children.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Warmly,
Kris Cordell
