So then…What are the benefits of Chamber Boot Camp?
***Summer is a great time to hone down skills and become a better musician.
In the summer it is possible to give the time and attention to concentrated playing that the rest of the school year doesn’t always afford while still giving time for vacation and relaxation from the weekly grind of the regular year. Boot camp helps allow for vacation without losing your, “chops” and in fact gaining skills.
***Boot camp is very important for those wanting to move up to the next level whether going from beginner to intermediate or intermediate to regular PCYO, moving from second to first violin (or forward in general). It also affords our most advanced students to work on leadership skills as well as chamber opportunities.
***Community, musical identity and friendship becomes very defined and developed during the boot camp weeks. This is very important to musical development. We hope to use the boot camp this year to seed future smaller chamber groups that can go on throughout the year.
After doing these camps for three years now, I am so convinced that they are one of the best ways to help our musicians develop. I enjoy every day we spend not just for the musical fun we have, but also for the growth I see in each and every student.
