FYI – new program for homeschoolers in the Sacramento area. Respond directly to Melissa and Nichole at CHECSouthside@gmail.com if interested.
Hello,
My name is Melissa Paoloni Johns and I am teaming up with Nichole Sawatzky to ask if you would be interested in joining our homeschool program in the Fall. Nichole and I have seen the need for more opportunities for homeschooled children to have educational time with other kids their own age. However, we know that homeschool moms are busy! Asking moms to commit to teaching other people’s children in a co-op setting isn’t the right fit for us this year. We want a day for our children to meet in classrooms with kids their own age and have an enrichment curriculum that would be taught at their ability level.
Our solution is CHEC: Christian Homeschool Enrichment Classes. As a ministry of Southside Community Church, CHEC will meet in the Children’s building of the Southside property (8890 Gerber Rd, Sacramento). The program will meet the needs of K-12th grade homeschooled children. Our plan is to hire teachers to teach the enrichment classes each semester. Those teachers would set up their payment plans based on the number of children that we enroll. While the classes themselves may or may not be specifically designed to enrich Christian faith, we do want all interested families to understand that this is a Christian program. We will open with a word of prayer each morning from Southside’s pastor, and we will encourage children and parents to pray with and for one another. We are excited about our children being able to openly talk about their faith.
As we plan for the financial side of this program, we are working to make this affordable, while maintaining a high-quality educational experience. We believe that these classes will be worth the cost. If you respond that you are interested in CHEC, you will receive an email in the next few months with a complete breakdown of the cost of the classes. Since CHEC is a ministry of Southside, there is no cost involved in utilizing the facility. However, we will ask each family to bring a small back-to-school list of supplies on our first meeting to replenish supplies we will use. We are planning to offer a fundraiser in August, and the profits will be distributed to all of the kids who participate to reduce the cost of classes.
Our plan is to meet every Monday in the fall, beginning in early September. We will meet from approximately 9 am to noon (though this may depend on the number of classes we hold). We will offer at least two classes that all parents must commit to, but we may offer additional optional classes as an elective choice.
During the time that children meet for classes, moms can meet in a separate room to relax and talk. While moms can feel free to bring their own coffee or snack, we will ask all of the children eat before they come to class. We want all of the children to be able to be included in a food-safe environment. There will be no communal snacks for either moms or children in the program.
If you are interested in CHEC, please send a response to our email at CHECSouthside@gmail.com. We need the following information in your email:
1. Your name
2. The names, ages, and grades of each of your children (K-12)
3. Your questions, concerns, interests in the program
After we secure the classes that we will be offering, we will send out a formal application for all interested families. Once we reach capacity, we will wait list families until the beginning of the following semester. As part of the application, each family will sign a contract that they commit to attending classes for the semester. We are trying to get low rates from our teachers, but we can only do this if we can ensure full classes.
We are so excited about CHEC! Please let us know if you are interested in joining us! Once we have a list of people who are interested, we will be able to negotiate fees with our teachers and send out a formal application. We look forward to this new adventure!
Sincerely,
Melissa and Nichole
