2018-19 ARTS EDUCATION MATINEE SERIES

The Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College offers a variety of programs and educational opportunities for students and schools to experience the arts. Our school-time matinee series is designed to provide a program that will entertain, educate and inspire your students through multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary performances.
·  Most matinees are one hour in length
·  $5 or Free Admission for most matinees
·  Standards based Study Guide provided for select performances
·  Ticket and Transportation Funding are available for qualified schools

From Northern Ireland comes a spectacular show where math, theatre and digital technology collide in an interactive performance. Danny Carmo thought school and, in particular, math wasn't for him. He was more interested in dreaming about becoming a magician. But as he learned the tricks of the trade, he realized that math was not only essential... it was THE SECRET to the magic that he loved. "The pupils were mesmerized!" raved a third grade teacher. "Not only do they want to know how to do the magic tricks, they want to know how the math works."

The most celebrated gamelan ensemble outside of Bali returns with a breathtaking mix of traditional and contemporary Balinese music and dance. Under the direction of internationally renowned gamelan composer and performer I Nyoman Windha and dance master I Nyoman Cerita, the 30-member Bay Area company celebrates its 40th Anniversary in an evening featuring three distinct music ensembles and dance that resonates in the heart and captures the imagination with its intricacy and emotional depth.

BELLA GAIA (Beautiful Earth) is an award-winning, immersive, live multimedia performance, of projected NASA visualizations of Earth from Space, with live world music and dance on stage. Inspired by astronauts who spoke of the life changing power of seeing the Earth from space, award-winning director, composer, and violinist Kenji Williams, created this multimedia journey of our world in partnership with NASA, combining stunning NASA imagery of the Earth from space, data visualizations, and stirring live performances of music and dance from around the world, threaded by an orbiting flight path from the International Space Station.

Filled with all of the wonderful ingredients we have come to expect from The Panto Company USA - lots of laughter, stunning costumes, music and plenty of magic-the ensemble comes to the Harris Center for two family-friendly shows this season. In Beauty and the Beast, the beautiful Belle finds herself in a spellbound castle held captive by a beast...does she fall in love with the Beast before the last petal falls? Or will the Beast's selfishness cost him the world he once knew?

Folsom Lake College's Dance Department offers classes in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Dance Composition and Production, as well as Musical Theatre Dance, Intro to Dance, World Dance History and Pedagogy. Alice's story takes a sharp turn as she falls down the rabbit hole into the dark and mysterious Wonderland. The Falcon's Eye Theatre presents Lewis Carroll's fairy tale of the absurd in this exuberant, funny and strikingly pertinent production meant for curious audience members of all ages.
