Capital Mock Trial Event

Capital Mock Trial is having an information meeting on Monday, December 16, 2013.

The National Home School Mock Trial Association Tournament is Thursday May 29, 2014 and Friday, May 30, 2014. This Tournament will take place simultaneously with the CHEA Convention at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California. Due to Tournament Rules, this Tournament is only open to independently home- schooled students.

Mock Trial is a team event which affords students hands-on learning of the American legal system, including issues involving constitutional rights. All students gain critical reading skills by assessing favorable and non-favorable facts within witness statements, developing fact timelines, and creating a team theme and story upon which to approach the case.  All students gain public speaking skills through various activates such as debating constitutional rights, opening statements, closing arguments, direct examinations, cross examination, or interacting as a witness.  Additionally, witnesses gain creative writing skills through character journal activities.

Students need not have speech/debate experience to have a good time. This is an event for varied interests, not just those interested in law or government.
